Integrating Japanese Eastern medicine with Western medicine.

At FuncPhysio Physical Therapy, we use a high-quality MLS laser therapy device to help reduce pain and inflammation, and promote healing. This technology is still rare in New York City, and we’ve seen great results, especially in cases that don’t always respond well to conventional methods alone.

In this post, we’ll share two real-life examples—plantar fasciitis and shin splints—that show how MLS laser therapy can help patients get back on their feet, literally.

Case 1: Acute Plantar Fasciitis with Heel Pain

A patient came to us with acute heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. In the early stages, walking was painful, especially first thing in the morning or after long periods of rest. We started MLS laser therapy, applying the treatment two to three times per week.

As the sessions progressed, the patient reported gradual but consistent improvement. After 10–12 sessions, the pain had significantly decreased, allowing them to return to normal walking without discomfort. While some days brought relief immediately after the session, other times the pain reduction came later in the day.

We also provided guidance on pain management strategies, including stretching, icing, and optional physical therapy to address biomechanics and prevent recurrence.

Case 2: Chronic Shin Splint with Tibialis Anterior Pain

Another patient had been struggling with chronic shin pain—specifically around the tibialis anterior—for several months. He had tried rest and stretching, but the discomfort always returned, especially during exercise.

Surprisingly, after just the first MLS laser session, he noticed a reduction in pain. We continued treatment two to three times per week. By the 6th session, they could return to light jogging without discomfort. By the end of the full treatment course (around 10–12 sessions), their pain had resolved, and they resumed full activity.

In this case too, we discussed other contributing factors such as muscle tightness and running form. We suggested physical therapy exercises to support long-term recovery and reduce strain on the shin.

Why Choose MLS Laser Therapy?

Unlike traditional lasers, MLS laser therapy uses a dual wavelength system to provide both anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects without damaging tissue. Many patients report either immediate relief or feel better later in the day after a session. It’s non-invasive, quick, and safe.

At FuncPhysio, we use MLS laser therapy as part of a broader approach to pain management. We talk with each patient about their lifestyle, movement patterns, and possible contributing factors. We may also recommend physical therapy sessions or home exercises to get the best results.

Only a few clinics in NYC currently offer MLS laser therapy. If you’re dealing with stubborn pain—whether recent or chronic—this advanced treatment may help accelerate your healing.
