Integrating Japanese Eastern medicine with Western medicine.

Post- Total Hip Replacement (THR) or Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) Recovery 🦵

One of our patients had a left total hip replacement (THR). After surgery, she was left with a long scar on the outside of her hip (the one on the cover). Every time she did a lunge on that side, she felt discomfort in the groin.

During our assessment, we found the scar had poor mobility. This limited her body tension and, because it was right over the gluteus medius, made that muscle harder to activate.

So before strengthening, we worked on scar mobilization.

We also demonstrated two tools:

1️⃣ Graston Technique: stainless steel instruments for soft tissue release.

2️⃣ RockPods: silicone cups for myofascial cupping, helping lift tissue, improve blood flow, and reduce adhesions.

⚠️ Tools are only part of it — the key is the therapist’s assessment and targeted treatment.

The Result ✨

After improving scar mobility, her gluteus medius activated better, movement looked smoother with fewer compensations, and the groin discomfort was gone, even without treating the groin directly!

Takeaway 💡

Pain isn’t always about the spot that hurts. Old injuries or scars, even from years ago, can still affect your body today.
