Integrating Japanese Eastern medicine with Western medicine.

In just two weeks, I’ll be running the New York City Marathon — a goal I’ve been training toward for the past two years. At FuncPhysio, we have a T-shirt that says “Persistence Pays Off” on the back. This simple phrase perfectly describes my running journey. Training for a marathon requires consistency, motivation, and a supportive community — all of which helped me stay active and prepare for race day.

1. Running as a Group Helped Me Stay Consistent

For me, running was never naturally enjoyable. Long runs alone can feel tedious, and motivation can easily fade. What changed everything was running with others.
Through our FuncPhysio Running Club, I found a community that shares the same goals, challenges, and determination. Running as a group every Sunday not only helped me stay consistent but also made each session meaningful. We support one another, exchange advice, and celebrate small milestones together. As the founder of this club, I’m truly grateful to have this group that motivates me week after week.

2. Being Active Keeps Me Healthy — Physically and Mentally

There were times I had to pause training — for example, when I was traveling or during major life events like marriage. During those breaks, I quickly noticed how much running had impacted my overall well-being.
Without exercise, I felt more stressed and less focused at work. Staying active helps me manage stress, think clearly, and feel energized. For anyone balancing work and life responsibilities, I strongly believe that regular movement is one of the best ways to maintain both physical and mental health.

3. Setting Goals Keeps Me Moving Forward

Having a goal has always been my biggest motivator. I started running because I wanted to experience the NYC Marathon, and signing up for races gave me a reason to stay disciplined.
Each race became a checkpoint in my journey, pushing me to train smarter and improve my performance. Scheduling races during less busy times of the year also helped me stay consistent, without letting life’s demands take over my training plan. Setting goals — even small ones — helps turn effort into progress.

Gratitude and Reflection

It’s been a long journey to get here, and I couldn’t have done it alone. I’m thankful for every member of the FuncPhysio Running Club, and for everyone who has supported and cheered for me. Running has taught me persistence, patience, and the importance of community — lessons that extend far beyond the marathon.

Persistence really does pay off.
