This past weekend, the streets of Brooklyn were buzzing with excitement as thousands of runners took on the Brooklyn Half Marathon. Dr. Kosaki, Dr. YJ, and a big group from FuncPhysio running club participated this race.
Before start

The race kicked off early at 7:00 AM, and the first 10 kilometers felt relatively comfortable—cooler temperatures and a few downhill stretches through Prospect Park made it easier to settle into a rhythm. But once we exited the park, things got tougher. The sun came out, the temperature climbed, and the course stretched into a long, flat straightaway toward Coney Island. That second half was deceptively difficult, and many of us found ourselves slowing down. It was a tricky course—physically and mentally challenging—but finishing it made the accomplishment feel even more rewarding.
One of the most moving parts of the day was seeing several of our club members over 60 years old crossing the finish line strong. Their determination, discipline, and positive energy are truly inspiring. Age didn’t slow them down—it only made their achievement more impressive. Watching them run reminded all of us what’s possible with consistent effort and the right community.
After the race

Our running club meets every Sunday at 9:00 AM in Central Park, and it’s open to anyone who wants to join—whether you’re an experienced runner or just getting started. In fact, one of the things that makes our group special is how beginner-friendly it is. Many of our members started as complete novices and have now completed their first races, including the Brooklyn Half!
Weekly running club activities

We focus on building a supportive and fun environment where everyone feels welcome. There’s no pressure—just progress, encouragement, and a shared love for movement. Training together over the past few months brought us closer as a group, and it was amazing to see those efforts come full circle on race day.
For YJ and me, the race itself was a great challenge and an even greater joy. From the start in Prospect Park to the finish near Coney Island, the crowd support and energy were incredible. Running alongside our teammates made it even more meaningful.
Congratulations to everyone who ran, and thank you to the friends and family who cheered us on. If you’ve been thinking about joining a running group or setting a new fitness goal, we’d love to welcome you to our Sunday runs. Who knows—you might just be crossing the finish line with us next time.
