Many people suffer from chronic neck pain, back pain, and headaches due to prolonged sitting. While posture is often blamed, deeper factors like mechanical restrictions and past medical conditions can play a significant role. This case study highlights how a comprehensive physical therapy approach helped a patient regain mobility and reduce pain.
A Patient’s Journey: From Persistent Pain to Relief
A patient came to our clinic struggling with chronic neck and back pain, frequent headaches, and discomfort while sitting for years. Through a detailed history, we discovered that they had experienced a lower abdominal pathology in the past, which led to bloating, lower back pain, neck stiffness, and headaches. Further assessment revealed significant mechanical restrictions, creating a fixed posture and limited movement in multiple areas of the body.
Before Treatment:

The patient had noticeable postural imbalances, including a forward head posture and tightness in the neck and lower back.
After Treatment:

After completing the treatment plan, the patient showed improved posture, reduced muscle tension, and an increase in neck and back mobility.
Personalized Treatment Approach
We began treatment by addressing deep fascial restrictions and soft tissue imbalances. Initial work focused on the lower abdomen, pelvic muscles, and the fascial layers around the pelvis and cranium. By releasing tension in these areas, we aimed to improve overall mobility and reduce the strain that had been contributing to headaches and spinal discomfort. After just the first phase of treatment, the patient noticed a significant decrease in headaches and reduced pain in the lower back and neck.
Building on this progress, we continued to work on soft tissue restrictions in the lower back, anterior rib cage, and neck. These areas play a crucial role in overall posture and movement efficiency. To maintain the improvements, we introduced breathing exercises in various positions to help the patient sustain better mobility and reduce soft tissue tension.
Results & Lasting Improvements
As treatment progressed, the patient reported a noticeable decrease in daily symptoms and an overall improvement in well-being. They experienced better sleep, reduced stiffness, and greater control over flare-ups by using the recommended exercises.
This case demonstrates that neck and back pain aren’t just about sitting posture—they are often linked to deeper restrictions within the body. By addressing these imbalances, long-term relief becomes possible.
